How do I obtain a copy of a Police Report or Accident Report?
You may come by the office during normal business hours and get a copy. You will need your case number (if available) and a photo ID. It is a good idea to call prior to coming to the station so we may see if your report is available for pick up. Please call 706-4550 and ask for Records.
How long after my incident until I can get a Police Report?
Reports are checked by a Patrol Supervisor, and we ask that you allow us 5-7
business days to process the report.
Is there a cost to get a report?
Victims may receive a copy of their report for free. All other personnel person(s) will be charged $3.00. You can pay by check
or money order. We do not accept cash, credit cards or debit cards.
Where can I be fingerprinted? What do I have to bring with me?
We have volunteers on certain days that fingerprint the public. Please call our
office at 843-706-4550 before coming to make sure we have someone available to fingerprint you. You need to bring a blue fingerprint card and a photo ID with you. Our hours for fingerprinting are:
Monday – 9:30 to 12:30
Tuesday – 9:30 to 4:30
Wednesday – NO FINGERPRINTING
Thursday – NO FINGERPRINTING
Friday – 9:30 to 11:30
How long are reports kept?
We go by State Record Retention Schedules, but generally, we have reports on file for at least 5 years.
I had the Police come to my house and made out a report. Now, I see it
mentioned in the paper. Why is this?
Police reports are considered Public Record and are made available to the media and the public. There are certain reports that are not made available to the media, such as Juvenile Reports and Sexual Battery Reports.
Can I get a background check at the Police Department?
We refer all background check inquiries to SLED. We have the form here at the
Police Department that gives you all the information you will need to contact
them.
Where can I pay my traffic citation?
Depending on who gave you the citation, you can pay it either at the Magistrate
Court office located on the Bluffton Parkway (Beaufort County Sheriff gave you
the citation) or the Municipal Court office located on Bridge Street (Bluffton PD gave
you the citation).
